Lindsey Sexton, RN, School Nurse at Wayne County High School received the “Outstanding Citizen of the Year” Award at Monticello-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet and Awards dinner on Thursday, February 17 at The Aspire Center in Monticello.
“Nine months ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. Throughout my waiting and recovery period, my community never left my side. In October, I chased a dream of mine by competing and completing the No Business 100 trail race. Once again, my community was there cheering for me and even waiting for me at the finish,” said Lindsey. “I’ve always said I live in the greatest place on Earth with the greatest people on Earth. This award should really go to them (the Outstanding Citizens of Monticello, Wayne County), but I’m very thankful they chose me to represent them. Thank you to each one who nominated me and to those that voted. I’ve been blessed far more than I deserve, and this was the icing on my cake!”
